So Ryan started doing the whole "furniture cruising" around 7 months old and was pushing around his walker by 8 or 9 months. Naturally, I thought walking would shortly follow....WRONG! He was not having it. He was a master army crawler and I think he knew he could get around faster that way. We did not push it though, we just figured he would walk when he was ready!! And that's just what he did. He took his first solo steps the day before his birthday and it took him another month and a half before he really took off. Here is a video of that day..

Thanksgiving '09

Thanksgiving was lovely this year but we had to make our rounds, as usual! I really wonder what it would be like to have a nice, relaxing holiday?? Nahhh, we like to keep busy! We started by watching the parade and having breakfast and coffee with my Grandma Theresa and Uncle Warren. Then we went to my Grandma and Grandpa Dickson's and had "lunch" there. We ended the day with dinner with John's family and had another "Thanksgiving" the following Sunday with my mom's family. Wheeew, that was a lot of Turkey!!! Ryan had a blast everywhere we went, he is such a little social butterfly! Here are some pictures from Ryan's second Thanksgiving...

We have a lot of family and friends to be thankful for and are so glad we were able to celebrate with all of them. Love you all!

Chuga-Chuga, Choo-Choo!

Yesterday, Meegan and I took the boys to Choo-Choo Train Park in Scottsdale and it was so awesome! We had never been there so Meegan insisted we check it out. Ryan got to ride a carousel and the train for the first time and loved it! They also have a park there where we let them run wild afterwards. It was such a beautiful day.

As you can see from the photos, Ryan had a great time at his first monkey-themed birthday party! I was so obsessed with taking his picture and running the party of course, that I didn't even get pictures of half of the kids or ANY adults really! Oooops! Sorry everyone! He really wasn't too sure about the cake as it was his first real taste of real sweets. He was a trooper all day without a nap. Thanks to everyone for coming and for the awesome gifts! We will never have to buy a single toy again! :)

Oh.....and if you are wondering why he is half naked in all of the pictures, it's my fault! After he ate lunch I whisked him away to do presents and forgot to put his shirt back on! Dang it. ha, oh well.

Our Baby Boy is One!!!!

I cannot believe the day has come, our little boy is a big one year old! It is amazing at how much development takes place the first year of life.To go from an innocent little thing to a wild monster! ha!

Some facts about Ryan at One....

-Loves to pet his "puppy".
-Chases around his puppy, cracking up the whole time!
-His favorite foods are apple sauce, goldfish crackers, hummus, and dried snap peas.
-Eats, or at least tries, anything I give to him.
-Dances on cue to any song or just when we say "Ryan, dance!"
-Can walk holding on or pushing stuff, when holding one of our hands, and took his first solo steps the day before his birthday.
-Loves to gives hugs and kisses.
-Says "Mama", "Dada", "Nana", "dog" and some other words that we can't quite make out yet!
-Still wears 6 month clothes (although they are getting a little hard to pull over his GIANT noggin).
-Loves Monkeys.
-Waves to any and everyone that says "hi", "bye", or just looks in his general direction!
-Is CONSTANTLY making the motorboat noise with his lips, and is pretty darn good at it.
-Shakes his head "no" and smiles every time I say "no" or "Ryyyyyyyan".
-Loves playing with all of his big boy toys and can entertain himself for hours doing so.
-His favorite cartoons are Franklin and the Wonder Pets.
-He is still constantly teething.
-Flirts with all of the ladies at the gym and they eat it up with a spoon.
-Knows where to point when I ask him where is my eyes, ears, nose, mouth, and head.
-Still cracks up at peek-a-boo.
-Loves to play patty cake...and after I take his hands and clap them, he takes mine and claps mine.
-Always pulls off his socks and shoes.
-Has learned to climb out of his crib and open all of the doors (yea, scary!)
-Gets so excited when his daddy comes home from work!
-Always offers us bites of whatever he is eating.
-Makes a smacking sound with his lips, because his dad taught him how!
-Is starting to throw fits when we take away a toy or his cup.

Long Time, No Blog...

So, I have been a terrible blogger lately, I know, I know! School has been consuming the free time I have to spend on the computer but NO EXCUSES, Ryan's fans want an update! :)

The little man has been growing like a weed lately, he is so tall and skinny, it's crazy. I am looking forward to his 12 month check up to get all of his "official" stats. He is pretty much no longer interested in baby food and eats all "real" food now. So far he has not been too picky but I am going to go ahead and put it out there that goldfish crackers and applesauce are his favorites! He is still a little teething machine, although we did have a break for about a month. Boy, was that nice, ha! As of now he has four top teeth, two bottom, and is working on the other bottom two as we speak. He can now open all of the doors in the house and is OBSESSED with trying to get into the bathroom. He NEVER stops moving for a second, he is such a busy, nosey, curious, active little guy. Since the weather has been cooler we have been going on a lot of walks to play at the park. I would have swore that he would have been walking by now since he started "furniture cruising" so early, but he is just not quite ready. He pushes his walker, truck, and chairs all over the place and will walk when I hold one of his hands, but he still prefers to crawl. I'm not complaining though, he can take all the time in world to start walking! I can't believe I am about to have a one year-old!?!?! What a year it has been, loving this little tiny man so much. Ryan had a blast at his best bud Mason's 1st birthday party. My friend Meegan did a great job on the party! They had a ball pit for the kids (a huge hit), a Hawaiian theme and awesome food! Ry was loving the watermelon. Above is a pic of my friend Kim and our little ones. We have all been friends since like junior high and it is so cool to see our kids playing together!

San Diego Or Bust

We took Ryan on his first real road trip to San Diego last weekend! (Here he is before we hit the road at 5am) He did pretty good on the way there, he slept the first 2 hours and we only had to pull over once to feed him. When we got into town we drove straight to the beach and walked around for a while. It was so beatiful out, partly cloudy and 70 degrees, a much needed break from the oven we reside in! The ocean just captivates me...and the breeze is something I wish I could experience every single day. Then we took Ry to the Birch Aquarium and he loved it...although I'm not sure who enjoyed more, him or his dad!

We stayed in a hotel in Point Lloma and our room was right on a harbor in the San Diego bay..it was amazing!(The pic to the right was on our patio!) We will definitely be staying there again. We mostly just walked around, played on the beach, ate good food, shopped and people watched. Ryan was so enamoured with the sand..he kept trying to put it in his mouth! All in all, it was a pretty fun trip, next time I just hope we can stay longer! On the way back, Ryan was so burned out and pretty much fussed the last 2 hours, more like screamed his head off. I guess he was just sick of being in the car...or it could be the fact he was teething... he FINALLY got his first tooth! The poor kid has had the most long, drawn-out teething process so far. Standing Alone

A few weeks ago, I walked in Ryan's room to find this...him standing up in his crib on his own! He had been standing for a while but I had never seen him pull himself up yet! He was cracking up at himself. Ever since, he has been pulling himslef up and sliding around all four sides of his crib, pulling up on the coffee table and on the fish tank stand. And over the last week, he has been standing up on the bumper and trying to crawl out of the crib! There is no turning back now..he is officially growing up way too fast and will be walking in no time!

Father's Day and Eric Clapton

So it's no secret to anyone who knows him, John is an awesome father. From the moment he was born, John was so attentive and sweet with Ryan. During the first couple of months when Ryan would wake up a few times a night to nurse, John would get up and change his diaper every time. Everyday when he comes home, he beelines (past me) right to Ry, ha! He always jokes after and calls me chop liver. John and Ryan have a "party" in the living room every night... He dumps out all of Ryan's toys on the floor and makes all of the blinky light toys go and gets all of the musical toys going and they go crazy. It cracks me up every time. He is so hands on and involved and Ryan is so lucky to have him as a daddy and he is a wonderful hubby to boot. Not to sound TOO cheesy, but we have a great little family going here and I am proud to be a part of it! Thank you John, for all you do for us!

To celebrate Father's Day we slept in and then went to our favorite breakfast place, The Coffee Shop in Gilbert. We spent some time with my dad on Saturday and some time with John's dad Sunday night. It was a relaxing first Father's Day for John and I think he enjoyed it. :)
Since John is such an awesome father, I got him (ehhhem, us!) some tickets to go see Eric Clapton and Steve Winwood in concert the following Friday. So we had ourselves a much needed night out alone. We have gone to dinner a few times, but we really have not had a whole night out since Ryan was born! The concert was amazing! It was like watching two geniuses jam live for 3 hours. I just sat there in awe of what we were witnessing...well worth the money!

Ryan and I went to visit my Grandparents yesterday and had a great time playing and chatting! He explored their house like the curious, busy little guy he is! My Grandparents are the greatest people I know...they are so generous and kind, and just genuinely interested in the well-being of their family. Anyone who knows My Grandma Johnnie knows she will never let you leave her house empty handed! Ryan left with some great gifts from his GREAT Grandma!We love you guys and thank you for all you do!

Splish Splash!

Over Memorial Day weekend we took Ry swimming for his first time at his Aunt Chrystie's house. I thought he was going to freak out like many babies the first time they get in a pool, but he LOVED it! He kept splashing with his hands and trying to put his face in the water. In fact, I could not get a good picture of him by himself because his head was pointed down towards the water the whole time!

6 Month Update

Last week Ryan had his 6 month check up, here are his stats...

~17 lbs...25th-50th percentile
~28.5 in...97th percentile
~His head is in the 90th percentile

So basically, he is like a lolly pop! Long, skinny body with a big top ;)

The Dr. said he could stand to gain a couple of pounds given his length but because he is only starting to eat food, it should happen on its own. I have been feeding him everyday but he is still not too interested. I think I came up with a winning combo last night though...rice cereal mixed with squash..he ate the whole serving!

He is just so active lately, he NEVER stops moving and squirming! We got him one of those jumper things and he goes crazy in it! He rolls and wiggles all over the place. Gone are the days of being able to put him down on the floor and walk away for a bit. We are still in the process of baby proofing. John built this box to hold all of the fish tank chords so that's a start! We need to get rid of the glass coffee tables and lock all of the cabinets. Watch out, Ryan's on the loose!

My baby is 6 months old today! I can't believe that..

Where did 6 months go?

The most amazing, wonderful experience I have ever had, has been the last 6 months of knowing and loving this most perfect little soul. I could have never imagined loving someone so much with all of my heart. All I have to do is look at his precious face and every little thing that ails me, melts away. I have said it here before and I will say it again...we are so blessed to have such a wonderful little guy for a son. God has really rewarded us.

Ryan's First Easter

The little man had a BIG day!

We first went to church in the morning, where he did not stop squirming or moving the entire time, he was sucking and chewig on his sandals. He took a little nap and then we went to the annual family Easter picnic at John's sister Karen's house. We ended the night at my Grandparents house with desert. He was so good all day, being passed around from one family member to another (he LOVES the attention)!

Ryan Meets "Real" Food

Ryan had his first taste of...let's call it "real" food, a.k.a. rice cereal a few weeks ago and he was not too impressed! Since then, I have let him suck on an apple core and that was a whole other taste experience, one that he LOVED. He was cute, everytime I gave it to him he would squeal in delight.

Our handsome little guy turned 5 months old the other day, and wow has he grown in the last month! It is so crazy how fast babies develop. The past few days he has been sitting up on his own for at least 30 seconds, he's rolling all over the place and grabs at everything. He gets up on his knees and if there is something in front of him that he wants he will wiggle his way right to it. The other day I was holding him and he grabbed my glass when I walked by the counter and spilled it everywhere. He is ALWAYS smiling and laughing and he has the cutest little chuckle going on. He makes my day, day in, and day out. Right now he is in his little jumper thing just watching me, more like staring at me, type and everytime I look over at him he starts cracking up! Being Ryan's mom has been the most amazing experience and we are so blessed to have such a wonderful little guy. He has the most sweet, gentle little soul and I can't wait to see what he will get into next. Here are some pictures from the last month..

We were at the mall today and when we walked passed the Easter Bunny, surprisingly enough, there was no one in line! Their packages start at $14...for ONE picture! I asked the lady if we could just snap a quick picture with our camera and she said okay since they were not busy! Ryan was sleeping before I woke him up and put him in this big fluffy guy's lap, so he was not a happy camper..but he still looks cute! :)

Ryan's First Haircut!

So Ryan's hair was balding in a weird circle and in the front really bad. He had a baby comb-over! So we decided to buzz it and start all over. He was so good and didn't even flinch. Me on the other hand, almost started crying when I saw his little hair falling to the floor! He was born with such a full head of dark brown hair, now it is coming in blonde. The picture below is right after! I think he looks handsome. ;)

Play Date With Mason!

Last week Meegan and I took the boys to a park by her house. Ryan got his first ride on a real park swing and loved it! We had to push them kind of slow because Ry is still learning to control his head. Mason is an old pro on the swing so when Ryan got off, he got to the real swinging... much faster! It is so cute to see the two of them interact! When we got to Meegan's house, Mason crawled right up and hugged Ryan.

Terrible Teething!

Ryan started teething about a month ago, but it was just a little drool here, a little fuss there...Well, the last week has been awful for the little guy! He has been in so much pain! The poor little guy is having the longest drawn out teething experience he can possibly have already! He is constantly holding on to his bottom gums and drooling and screaming. I feel so bad, because nothing seems to make him feel better.
Oh! And one more thing...he had his 4 month check up last week and he is 15lbs and 27inches. He is in the 50% for his weight and the 97% for his height! He is so long!

It's hard to believe that it's already been a year since John and I were married! Look at all that has happened in the last year... So we decided to take a trip to Sedona for our anniversery, fitting since this is where we were engaged and where we went on our honeymoon! We stayed in the same room we always do at the Radison Poco Diablo Resort. The room is so nice and right on the golf course with a beatiful view of the red rocks. It was fun to take Ryan on his first little road trip. He got a little fussy on the way up, but the rest of the time he was an angel! Here are few pictures...

I just wanted to brag that Ryan has been sleeping through the night for the last 4 weeks! With the exception of an occasional 2am feeding, he will sleep anywhere from 7-10 hours! It has been so amazing to sleep normal again. More proof of how blessed we truly are with this kid. Here is a picture of our sleeping angel napping a couple of days ago...
